Jomsom Muktinath Trek
Trekking to Jomsom – Muktinath can be started from Pokhara or fly to Jomsom and trek to Muktinath then walk down to Pokhara or fly out from Jomsom; either one is possible. Muktinath is one of the most important pilgrimage sites for both Hindus and Buddhists and you encounter ascetic sadhus carring trident and more than a blanket on the way. We see people selling saligram along the way to Kali Gandaki, a black stone that, when broken opens reveals the fossilized remains of prehistoric ammonites that lived here more than 140 million years ago, 
 
It is believed that ‘Visnu in Stone’ as a legend god Visnu turned into stone by the beautiful and virtuous Vrinda he seduced her. We trek down to Tatopani through beautiful Thakali village of Marpha(2680m), the place of trekkers favorite, impressive kanis  . And there is big Samtenling Gompa at Marpha. You can take healing bathe in the pond of natural hot spring in Tatopani which is 60 degree Celsius hot. You will walk through the Kali Gandaki Valley which was centuries before the primary trade route between the Tibet and India. This Jomsom Muktinath Trek guarantees visitors for a wonderful landscape of natural beauties, great Himalayan scenery and unique tribal culture. No words to describe the beautiful panorama from Poon Hill/3210m.
 
Outline Itinearry
Day 01: Join Kathmandu (1300m), meet and greet, transfer to Kathmandu Guest House.
Day 02: Get permits, preparation or visit ancient old temples in Kathmandu
Day 03: Drive to Pokhara (800m) by tourist coach.
Day 04: Fly to Jomsom from Pokhara (25 minutes), trek to Kagbeni (2800 m.) 3 hours walk.
Day 05: Trek to Muktinath/3800m, 3 hours walk and stay in lodge.
Day 06: Trek to Marpha (2670 m.) via Lubra 6 hours walk and stay in lodge.
Day 07: Drive to Tatopani (1190m). Overnight in lodge.
Day 08: Trek to Ghorepani (2850m), 3-4 hours walk. Overnight in lodge.
Day 09: Trek to Tadapani/2590m, 5 hours walk and stay in lodge.
Day 10: Trek to Ghandruk (2012m), 3-4 hours walk and stay in lodge.
Day 11: Trek to Nayapul and drive to Pokhara (800m)
Day 12: Rest and relax in Pokhara
Day 13: Drive back to Kathmandu (1300m)
Day 14: Further destination or fly back to home

Day 01: Join Kathmandu (1300m)
Meet and greet at Kathmandu airport (TIA, Tribhuvan International Airport) received by Wilderness Excursion representative on your arrival. Later, you will be transferred to your hotel. Check into the hotel, get fresh, relax a bit or you can explore the vicinity until we meet in the evening for the trip briefing. The time for the briefing will be informed to you once you arrive at hotel. Stay overnight in Kathmandu Guest House.

Day 02: In Kathmandu
Today we will get permits, after breakfast you have choice to visit ancient old temples in Kathmandu or you can do preparation. Kathmandu is known as the city of temples. There are several UNESCO CULTURAL HERITAGE TOUR today which includes: Swayambhunath - The oldest Buddhist Stupa in Kathmandu Valley, a beautiful abode for lots of monkeys thus also known as Monkey Temple, is also a perfect vantage point to see Kathmandu valley. Pashupatinath- A holy pilgrimage for Hindus and Hindu Crematorium, watch as the Hindu dead bodies are cremated in the most unique way in the world; we come across men with ash rubbed body, matted locks and dreaded look which is typical look of a Hindu Holy Men known as Sadhus. Boudhanath- the biggest Buddhist temple in the world; a site for Tibetan Buddhism where we can visit monasteries, watch the Holy Monks busy in their chanting ritual going around the temple. Patan Durbar Square- A Medieval Royal Palace area which is also known as the city of fine arts, we can see the finest example of metal and stone carving back to 14th century and also the amazing Nepali Architecture. Stay overnight in Kathmandu Guest House.

Day 03: Kathmandu - Pokhara (800m)
Early morning breakfast and we check out the hotel to go to Pokhara. A 7 hours drive by tourist bus takes us to the amazingly beautiful city of Pokhara 200 km west of Kathmandu. The drive is very scenic which goes through the winding and stretching road along side the famous rafting river of Trishuli and later on Marsyangdi. The passing through some beautiful small Nepali towns will give you some glimpses of countryside of Nepal.

Day 04: Fly to Jomsom from Pokhara (25 minutes), trek to Kagbeni (2800 m.) 3 hours walk.
Take a short but scenic flight in the morning to a stunning town of Jomsom. A twenty minutes' flight with a very close up view of Annapurna range takes you to the mountain town of Jomsom. Feel welcomed by the mountain air in Jomsom and start the trek of the day to Kagbeni along the bank of Kali Gandaki river. A five hours gentle walk takes you to this beautiful place in the middle of the mountains. Enjoy the view of the mountains.

Day 05: Trek to Muktinath/3800m, 3 hours walk and stay in lodge.
Wake up early to a beautiful morning, take breakfast and start the walk of the day to Muktinath. Muktinath is a very significant sacred pilgrimage site for the Hindus and Buddhist, the place has a special spiritual charm. An about six hours walk takes you to this enchanting place. We stay at a tea house.

Day 06: Trek to Marpha (2670 m.) via Lubra 6 hours walk and stay in lodge.
Wake up to another fresh and beautiful morning; feel relaxed with each inhale of the mountain air. Drive to Jomsom after breakfast and trek to Marpha. Experience and enjoy the mountain driving in Nepal for about one and half hours and trek gentle down hill for about two hours to Marpha, today's stopover.

Day 07: Drive to Tatopani (1190m).
Take another day experience of mountain driving in Nepal. Drive to Tatopani (Hot Water) after breakfast. Once you reach Tatopani, you can enjoy a bath natural hot spring pool and wash the tiredness away. Overnight rest in a tea house

Day 08: Tatopani - Ghorepani (2850m)
It's a long day walk up today. It will take you about eight hours to reach a magnificently beautiful village of Ghorepani. Once you reach there, enjoy the close up view of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna mountain range. Stay overnight in Super View lodge.

Day 09: Trek to Tadapani/2590m, 5 hours walk and stay in lodge.
Early morning wake up to hike to a stunning view point of Poon Hill for a breathtaking panoramic view of the mountains and an incredible sunrise. Walk back to the tea house and enjoy the breakfast. Map the trail to hike to Tadapani. Stay overnight in grand view Guest house.

Day 10: Trek to Ghandruk (2012m), 3-4 hours walk and stay in lodge.
We walk along a shaded forest trail, followed by terraced fields of maize and potatoes to Ghandruk. From here we have fantastic views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhare. It is a major settlement of the Gurung, an ethnic group of Nepal. It is a very famous Gurung village with terraces and offers excellent mountain views. After arriving, it is possible to take a short walk to explore the village, visiting a cultural museum and monastery.

Day 11: Trek to Nayapul and drive to Pokhara (800m)
Walk down hill from Ghandruk to Syauli Bazaar then flat pleasing walk to Nayapul and drive back civilization, Pokhara. Rest and relax after 5 days hiking.

Day 12: Rest and relax in Pokhara
Today is the day to relax or rest. We have free time to enjoy the natural beauty of Pokhara. You can go for relaxing massage, spa treatment. If you are not exhausted, we go for boating on the Phewa Lake and visit a temple in the middle of the lake, visit Davi's fall and International Mountain Museum. You can also go for adventure activities like Paragliding, ultralight flight,

Day 13: Drive back to Kathmandu (1300m)
Today, after breakfast, we make a 200 kilometers drive back to Kathmandu. Better to hold on the left pane of the vehicle to enjoy the scenery through the route. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel. There is nothing to do but trade emails with travel companions and organize the photos. You can spend the evening leisurely, perhaps catch up on some last minute shopping. To celebrate the successful completion of our journey, we will have a farewell dinner in the evening. Overnight at Kathmandu Guest House.

Day 14: Further destination or fly back to home
Trip conclusion and time of farewell to the mountains as your journey in Nepal comes to an end today! We take you to the airport for your flight time. We hope you enjoyed the trek, and are sure you will be back trekking somewhere in the Himalaya again. Approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight a representative from Wilderness Excursion will take you to the airport. On your way home you'll have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.

Packing List and Equipment for Jomsom Muktinath Trek

Footwear

  • A waterproof trekking boot with suitable ankle support that have been worn-in prior to the trek,
  • Trail shoes or trainer or casual shoes, for walking or strolling around(optional)
  • 2-3 Pairs of warm socks for colder areas depending on trekking duration.
  • Gaiters, in case of rain or snow
  • Sandal, crocs or flip flop to take shower and walk around,
  • 2-3 pair of smooth thin wool, nylon or Capilene Liner socks to be worn next to the skin. This reduces the incidence of blisters and hot-spots and makes the outer sock last longer before needing to be changed. They should fit well with your heavyweight socks.

Leg wears

  • Trekking/hiking casual trousers and short, Thermal leggings for colder areas
  • Long skirt for women as an alternative to trousers and Waterproof trousers.

Body

  • Selection of hiking/trekking T-shirts, and long sleeved shirts, preferably not cotton
  • Thermal and warm shirts, possibly fleece shirt for colder areas.
  • Fleece jacket or warm wool jumper
  • Hard shell jacket with hood and hard shell pants if trekking in colder months/winter.
  • Windbreaker or waterproof jacket for higher altitudes
  • Down jacket (optional for cold nights and mornings; can be hired in Kathmandu cheaply).
  • Underwear 4-5. Comfortable underwear is essential. Pack both cotton and polyester in case of problems (Friction).

Head/Hands

  • Wool or fleece hat, or balaclava
  • Hat or cap for sun protection while trekking
  • Sunglasses or goggles, genuine UV protection sunglasses preferable
  • Warm gloves
  • Buff and higher and colder place, not very important for ABC Trek.
  • Large handkerchief/bandana for neck
  • Head lamp/torch with spare batteries.
  • Sun/cold creams,

Personal Trekking Equipment

  • Strong rucksack or large hold all to be carried by porters
  • Day sack to carry valuables such as passport, cash, camera, travel documents personally
  • Plastic bags or stuff sacks to store/separate trekking gear inside your main bag, Personal first aid kit to include essential items, Adjustable 3 section trekking pole
  • 3-4 season sleeping bag, Camera and memory cards, charger, tripod if necessary, towel and toiletries, rain cover for yourself and luggage, multi-purpose hiking pocket knife.

Optional items

  • Binoculars, Books or an eBook, Altimeter, Compass and GPS.
  • Playing cards, backgammon and chess set etc.
  • Tablets or smart phones, there are mobile networks in most trekking areas of Nepal.
  • Pocket trekking map,
  • Small light note books, pen/pencil for journal writing.

For water

  • Two water bottles one liter each is fine or preferably camel bag water bottle. Water treatment tablets: Iodine, Dioxide tablets, Taste neutralizer tablets remove iodine taste if necessary.
  • Vacuum flask and a cup preferably is doing teahouse.

Pee Bottle (Optional) but very useful.
Pee funnel for women (optional) Lightweight urinary director.
Hand/foot warmers (Optional) Recommended if you easily get cold hands and feet 1-3 pairs.

Personal first aid kit (small and simple) Aspirin, Moleskin, Adhesive tape, Band-Aids. Scissor, Blade,

Drugs/medications/prescriptions Climbers should bring Mupirocin (Bactroban) cream, excellent topical antibiotic for scrapes and cuts. Cirprofloxin (Cipro) 500mg tablets for travelers' diarrhea and for urinary tract infections. Loperamide (Lomotil) or Immodium for diarrhea. Acetazolamide (Diamox) 125 or 250mg tablets for alltitude sickness. Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) 200mg tablets for altitude headaches, sprains, aches, etc. Excedrin for headaches. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) 325mg tablets for stomach sensitivity.
