Langtang Valley Trek is the nearest Himalayan trekking destination from Kathmandu valley. 6-7 hour drive takes you to Syabrubesi from where we start our classic Langtang Valley Trek. Although being very close to Kathmandu, the Langtang valley is remained as Wilderness as any other Tibetan highlands with sublime remote landscape. The people from the highlands of the Langtang valley are definitely Nepalese but being direct descendant of the Tibetan origin, they look like the Tibetans. Hereafter, Langtang region is one of the most popular trekking regions for those wishing a short trek from Kathmandu into the Himalayas influenced by Tibetan lifestyle. 

In addition with the varieties of rhododendron, bamboo forests, majestic waterfalls and snow-capped peaks make the trek one of the most diverse treks nearby Kathmandu. Our 7 Days Langtang Valley Trek starts with a day's jeep ride from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. We begin the journey from Syabrubesi. We head upward to Lama Hotel and Langtang village until we arrive at the famous Kanyanjin Gompa as our last destination. After exploring the region, we trek back same way to Syabrubesi from where we drive back to Kathmandu.
 
Outline Itinerary
Day 01: Meet and greet at airport. Transfer to hotel.
Day 02: Get permits, preparation, visit ancient old temples in Kathmandu
Day 03: Drive to Syabru Bensi (1470m) by 4WD local jeep, 6 hours.
Day 04: Trek to Lama Hotel (2324m), 5-6 hours walk.
Day 05: Trek to Langtang (3330m), 5-6 hours walk.
Day 06: Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3870m), 3-4 hours walk.
Day 07: Excursion Tsergo Ri (4985m), full day.
Day 08: Trek to Lama Hotel, 5-6 hours walk.
Day 09: Trek to Syabrubesi, 4-5 hours walk.
Day 10: Transfer to Kathmandu by local 4WD jeep.

Day 01: Kathmandu - Syabru Bensi/1470m approx. 7 hours drive
After morning breakfast we drive out along the north-western hills of Kathmandu. Enjoy the Himlayan views and mountainous lifestyle through the terraced fields and rustic villages. Take Lunch at the Trishuli Bazar before continuing further to Dhunche. From Dhunche, we descent down to Syabrubesi.

Day 02: Syabrubesi - Lama Hotel 2324m/5-6 hours,
Start our trek after breakfast, the trail continues passing the village and you cross on a suspension bridge. Then the trail ascends upstream of Langtang Khola through the forests until reaching Pairo which takes about 3 hours. You have lunch break here. After lunch, your trek continues through the deep forests till Bamboo and it takes about 1 and half hour. Then the trail ascends through deep forests and you cross by suspension bridge, then again the steep ascent brings you in Lama Hotel which takes about 2 hours. Stay overnight in lodge.

Day 03: Lama Hotel - Langtang 3330m, 5-6 hours,
The tail continues through the forests until reaching Gumnachok and it takes about 1 and half hour. Then you continue your hike to Godatabela which takes about 2 hours. Now you have a glimpse of Langtang Lirung. You have lunch break here. After lunch, the trail continues passing the yak pasture land and through the forests until reaching Thangshyap which takes about 2 hours. Then your trail keeps rising until Chyamki and it takes about 1 and half hour. You cross on a suspension bridge and continue till Langtang village which takes about 1 hour. . You have a good view of Langtang Lirung and other peaks as well as beautiful waterfall. You can visit old monastery with your guide in the evening time. Stay overnight in lodge.

Day 04: Langtang - Kyanjin Gompa 3870m/3-4 hours,
Today is only short day walking from Langtang to Kyanjin Gompa. The trail continues passing the Yak pasture land until reaching Kyanjin Gompa which takes about 3 hours slowly. You have lunch. After lunch, you can visit Kyanjin Gompa and Cheese Factory with your guide and taste yak cheese. Now you have a superb view of Langtang Lirung, Gangchempu, Nayakhang and other peaks. Stay overnight in lodge.

Day 05: Excursion Tsergo-Ri 4985m
Today, we do excursion and hike to Tsergo-Ri, 4985m. We start in the morning after breakfast. First you walk level trail about 30 minutes and you cross small stream. Then the trail continues steep ascending with viewing the panoramic snow capped mountains which takes about 3 and half hours. You have a superb view of Langtang Lirung, Nayakhang, Gangchembu, Ganja-La range, Yala peak, Langshisha Ri and other snowy peaks. If you want to explore more and spend long time on the top, you better to take packed lunch from your Lodge. After enjoying, you climb down till to lodge which takes about 2 and half hour. Stay overnight in lodge.

Day 06: Kyanjin Gompa - Lama Hotel 2324m/5-6 hours,
The trail descends down passing the yak pasture land until reaching Langtang which takes about 2 hours then continue walk and cross the suspension bridge and climb down till Thangshyap. It takes about 1 hour. Again you continue the trail following through the forests until reaching Godatabela which takes about 1 hour. You have lunch break here. After lunch, the trail keeps descending till Lama Hotel. Stay overnight in lodge.

Day 07: Lama Hotel - Syabrubesi
After breakfast, we trek down to Syabrubensi, about 5 hours walk. Enjoy the easy trail mostly downhill through lush green vegetation. Arriving Syabrubesi, we take our lunch.

Day 08: Transfer to Kathmandu
After breakfast we drive back to Kathmandu. Arriving Kathmandu, transfer to your hotel. Spend the day leisurely or catch up on some last minute shopping or explore any sights you missed during your first day in Kathmandu. In the evening, celebration dinner together.

Packing List and Equipment for Langtang Valley Trek 

Footwear

  • A waterproof trekking boot with suitable ankle support that have been worn-in prior to the trek,
  • Trail shoes or trainer or casual shoes, for walking or strolling around(optional)
  • 2-3 Pairs of warm socks for colder areas depending on trekking duration.
  • Gaiters, in case of rain or snow
  • Sandal or flip flop to take shower and walk around,
  • 2-3 pair of smooth thin wool, nylon or Capilene Liner socks to be worn next to the skin. This reduces the incidence of blisters and hot-spots and makes the outer sock last longer before needing to be changed. They should fit well with your heavyweight socks.

Leg wears

  • Trekking/hiking casual trousers and short, Thermal leggings for colder areas
  • Long skirt for women as an alternative to trousers and Waterproof trousers.

Body

  • Selection of hiking/trekking T-shirts, and long sleeved shirts, preferably not cotton
  • Thermal and warm shirts, possibly fleece shirt for colder areas.
  • Fleece jacket or warm wool jumper
  • Hard shell jacket with hood and hard shell pants if trekking in colder months/winter.
  • Windbreaker or waterproof jacket for higher altitudes, rain jacket. 
  • Down jacket (optional for cold nights and mornings; can be hired in Kathmandu cheaply)

Head/Hands

  • Wool or fleece hat, or balaclava
  • Hat or cap for sun protection while trekking
  • Sunglasses or goggles
  • Warm gloves
  • Buff for colder place, not very important for short langtang trek.
  • Large handkerchief/bandana for neck
  • Head lamp/torch with spare batteries

Personal Trekking Equipment 

  • Strong rucksack or large hold all to be carried by porters
  • Day sack to carry valuables such as passport, cash, camera, travel documents personally
  • Plastic bags or stuff sacks to store/separate trekking gear inside your main bag, Personal first aid kit to include essential items, Adjustable 3 section trekking pole and padlock etc.
  • 3-4 season sleeping bag, Camera and memory cards, charger, tripod if necessary, towel and toiletries., rain cover for yourself and luggage, multi-purpose pocket or hiking knife.
  • Vacuum Flask to put hot water or tea in it (Useful during the day hike or in high passes)

Optional items

  • Binoculars, Books or an eBook, Altimeter, Compass and GPS.
  • Playing cards, backgammon and chess set etc.

For water

  • Two water bottles one liter each is fine or preferably camel bag water bottle. Water treatment tablets: Iodine, Dioxide tablets, Taste neutralizer tablets remove iodine taste if necessary.

Pee Bottle (Optional) but very useful.
Pee funnel for women (optional) Lightweight urinary director.
Hand/foot warmers (Optional) Recommended if you easily get cold hands and feet 1-3 pairs.

Personal first aid kit (small and simple) Aspirin, Moleskin, Adhesive tape, Band-Aids. Scissor, Blade,

Drugs/medications/prescriptions Climbers should bring Mupirocin (Bactroban) cream, excellent topical antibiotic for scrapes and cuts. Cirprofloxin (Cipro) 500mg tablets for travelers' diarrhea and for urinary tract infections. Loperamide (Lomotil) or Immodium for diarrhea. Acetazolamide (Diamox) 125 or 250mg tablets for alltitude sickness. Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) 200mg tablets for altitude headaches, sprains, aches, etc. Excedrin for headaches. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) 325mg tablets for stomach sensitivity.
