Pikey Peak trek is an interesting freshly introduced trekking journey that takes you to the off the beaten lower Everest region, a great combination of wilderness experience and dramatic exploration of rural Nepal. The trail follows the less crowded area from Jiri, Junbesi, Chaulakharka, Ngaur till reach to Pikey hill. From the Pikey peak, one can see the various spectacular mountain view over 8,000 miter including Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Lhotse, Manaslu, Annapurna and many other snow covered peaks. The Pikey Peak is popular for its breathtaking sunrise and sunset views and one can take pleasure in the magnificent sight of the peaks beyond the Kathmandu valley to the plains along with lots of Himalayan range.

The Pikey Peak trail trek in Nepal with Wilderness Excursion heads through Everest and Khumbu region path which is one of the lower places to see Mt. Everest 8,848m. While making your memorable holiday, the marvelous Pikey Peak Trek itinerary follows rhododendron forests, highly culture influenced villages, natural and cultural experience, splendid uphill and downhill trails with the combination of Himalayan panorama. Though this route has been recently opened for trekking purpose and has been the least preferred option amongst the travellers, Pikey peak climbing is the best way to explore the Everest region without getting disturbed by any sort of crowds.

The journey takes you to the some of the beautiful Sherpa settlements in in Junbesi, interact with locals as you pass the beautiful villages is an opportunity to get some insights on unique culture and practices of Sherpa people living in those areas. The beautiful monasteries and stupas that you come across on your way to Pikey peak is an amazing experience. The lush valleys and forests that you pass through adds the amusement of your journey. Your journey starts with a scenic flight above the Himalayas to the Solu region of Nepal. From here, you will pass many settlements and rhododendron forests to the Pikey Danda. The view of the mountains throughout your journey is spectacular. More awesome is the sunrise and sunset views from the Pikey Danda. If you are lucky enough to travel in the flower blossoming season, you will find the wild orchids and Mongolia flowers greeting you throughout your journey.

Day 04: Trek from Salleri to Ghunsa (2250m/7380ft.) via Dorpu, 5-6 hrs trek.
Day 05: Trek from Ghunsa to Pattale (2840m/9315ft.) via Kerung, 5-6 hrs trek.
Day 06: Trek from Pattale to Jhapre (2820m/9249ft.) [5-7 hrs trek.
Day 07: Trek from Jhapre to Pikey peak (4065m/13333ft.), 5-6 hrs trek.
Day 08: Trek from Pikey peak to Junbesi (2700m/8856ft.) 4-5 hrs trek.
Day 09: Excursion to Thuptenchholing Monastery and back to Junbesi
Day 10: Trek from Junbesi to Phaplu (2470m/8101ft.), 5-6 hrs trek.
Day 11: Fly/drive from Phaplu to Kathmandu

Day 04: Trek from Shivalaya to Bhandar (2190m/7183ft.), 5-6 hrs trek.
Day 05: Trek from Bhandar to Ngaur (3350m/10988ft.) via Chaulakharaka, 6-7 hrs trek.
Day 06: Excursion Pikey peak (4065m/13333ft) and back to Ngaur.
Day 07: Trek from Ngaur to Loding (2434m/7984ft.), 5-6 hours trek.
Day 08: Trek from Loding to Junbesi (2700m/8856ft.) 4-5 hrs trek.
Day 09: Excursion to Thuptenchholing Monastery and back to Junbesi
Day 10: Trek from Junbesi to Phaplu (2470m/8101ft.) via Chiwong monastery, 5-6 hrs trek.
Day 11: Fly/drive from Phaplu to Kathmandu
Day 12: Final Departure from international airport.

Trip note: For your information; Phaplu flight can be delay by few hours or canceled for a day or more rarely, it may happen even in top trekking season but as an option there are local jeeps or bus available to Kathmandu from Salleri in case the flight is cancelled. Pikey Peak trek can be customized as per client requirements. The trip price will be according to mode of transportation and kind of accommodation in Kathmandu we include. Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu, meet our company representative and transfer to hotel.
Flying to Kathmandu is thrilling with the views of snow-capped mountain peaks sprawling down below you are almost delighted, beginning a whole chain of memorable experiences that stay with you for a long, long time.I will meet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel. I will help you check into your designated hotel. At the hotel, you will be briefed about your daily activities.

Day 02: Sightseeing of Kathmandu Valley
Kathmandu is known as “the city of temples” and has been a popular destination for tourists ever since Nepal opened its doors to visitors. The city presents a wonderful mix of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influence in the Valley. Patan and Bhaktapur, its two major neighboring cities bear immense historical, cultural and religious significances. There will be a half day guided tour to the famous and biggest Hindu shrine of Pashupatinath,the largest Buddhist stupa in Nepal Boudhanath, the 15th century Palace of 55 windows and Swayambhunath.

Day 03: Fly to Phaplu (2470m/8101ft.) from Kathmandu & Trek to Salleri (2390m/7839ft), [2-3 hrs trek.
From Kathmandu we will take a filght to Phaplu which takes approximately around 35 minutes. After landing at Phaplu we will start our trek to Salleri where we can wander around the busy local market and make visits to fascinating monasteries such as Chewang Monastery.

Day 04: Trek from Salleri to Ghunsa [2250m/7380ft] via Dorpu [5-6 hrs trek.
Leaving Salleri we will follow the trail that passes through several cultural and traditional villages inhabited by Tamang, Magar and Sherpa tribe communities of Nepal. During the trek we will have good views of surrounding mountains and beautiful landscapes. We will continue our trekking until we arrive at Ghunsa.

Day 05: Trek from Ghunsa to Pattale (2840m/9315f.) via Kerung, 5-6 hrs trek.
Today we will trek on a moderate trail that passes through several monasteries and beautifully painted mani walls. At Kerung we will make visit to some of the ancient monasteries and take a look at the Buddhist stupa. Along our trekking route we will get chance to interact with local peoples mainly with Tamang, Magar and Sherpa community backgrounds. We will trek until we arrive at Pattale.

Day 06: Trek from Pattale to Jhapre (2820m/9249ft), 5-6 hrs trek.
From Pattale we will trek exploring the rich flora and fauna of the region. The area is rich with wild orchids offering trekkers an awesome feeling for trekkers while trekking. Our further trekking passes through additional monasteries and Buddhist stupas. After arriving at Jhapre, we will spend some time watching the traditional and cultural local performance in Jhapre which is definately one of the best ways to understand the culture of the region.

Day 07: Trek from Jhapre to Pikey peak (4065m/13333ft.) 5-6 hrs trek.
Leaving Jhapre we will follow the trail that heads higher up into the alpine vegatation. Gradually ascending we will trek through monasteries dating bak to hundreds of years, Buddhist stupas and mani walls. We will continue to trek through several yak herding open fields with good views of surrounding environment. We will camp at a good camping site near the base camp of Pipek peak.

Day 08: Trek from Pikey peak to Junbesi (2700m/8856ft.) 4-5 hrs trek.
Pikey peak base camp is one of the best spot to witness the morning sunrise view. We will wake up early for the magnificent sunrise view over Himalayan Ranges from Kanchenjunga to Dhaulagiri as well as mount Everest. After spending a quality time in the morning, we will follow the trail that is an easy downhill trekking through the scenic landscapes and scattered settlements to arrive at Junbesi.

Day 09: Excursion Thuptenchholing Monastery (3100m) and trek back to Junbesi, 3-4 hrs trek.
From Junbesi we will make an uphill climb towards Thuptenchholing where we will visit Thuptenchholing monastery and observe the traditional Tibetan medicinal therapy. From the top we can enjoy the whole Junbesi valley down below. After spending few hours at Thuptenchholing we will head back to Junbesi. We can also observe the Sherpa cultural dance performance on request at Junbesi.

Day 10: Trek from Junbesi to Phaplu (2470m/8101ft], 5-6 hrs trek.
From Junbesi we will start our trek follow the trail that is an easy downhill walking . This is the last day of our trek, therefore we will take it easy and try to enjoy every bit of our trek. At Phaplu we will celebrate the end of our trek with tasty local food and Sherpa cultural program.

Day 11: Fly or drive from Phaplu to Kathmandu.
Today we will take a scenic flight from Phaplu back to Kathmandu that takes approximately about 30 minutes. After arriving at Kathmandu, you can relax at the Hotel or do sightseeing around Kathmandu valley before heading back to your destination.

Day 12: Final Departure from international airport.
Our Airport representative will drop you at the Airport as per your flight schedule.

Packing List and Equipment for Pikey Peak Trek

Footwear

  • A waterproof trekking boot with suitable ankle support that have been worn-in prior to the trek,
  • Trail shoes or trainer or casual shoes, for walking or strolling around(optional)
  • 2-3 Pairs of warm socks for colder areas depending on trekking duration.
  • Gaiters, in case of rain or snow
  • Sandal, crocs or flip flop to take shower and walk around,
  • 2-3 pair of smooth thin wool, nylon or Capilene Liner socks to be worn next to the skin. This reduces the incidence of blisters and hot-spots and makes the outer sock last longer before needing to be changed. They should fit well with your heavyweight socks.

Leg wears

  • Trekking/hiking casual trousers and short, Thermal leggings for colder areas
  • Long skirt for women as an alternative to trousers and Waterproof trousers.

Body

  • Selection of hiking/trekking T-shirts, and long sleeved shirts, preferably not cotton
  • Thermal and warm shirts, possibly fleece shirt for colder areas.
  • Fleece jacket or warm wool jumper
  • Hard shell jacket with hood and hard shell pants if trekking in colder months/winter.
  • Windbreaker or waterproof jacket for higher altitudes
  • Down jacket (optional for cold nights and mornings; can be hired in Kathmandu cheaply).
  • Underwear 4-5. Comfortable underwear is essential. Pack both cotton and polyester in case of problems (Friction).

Head/Hands

  • Wool or fleece hat, or balaclava
  • Hat or cap for sun protection while trekking
  • Sunglasses or goggles, genuine UV protection sunglasses preferable
  • Warm gloves
  • Buff and scarf for higher and colder place, not very important for Pikey Peak Trek.
  • Large handkerchief/bandana for neck
  • Head lamp/torch with spare batteries.
  • Sun/cold creams,

Personal Trekking Equipment

  • Strong rucksack or large hold all to be carried by porters
  • Day sack to carry valuables such as passport, cash, camera, travel documents personally
  • Plastic bags or stuff sacks to store/separate trekking gear inside your main bag, Personal first aid kit to include essential items, Adjustable 3 section trekking pole
  • 3-4 season sleeping bag, Camera and memory cards, charger, tripod if necessary, towel and toiletries, rain cover for yourself and luggage, multi-purpose hiking pocket knife.

Optional items

  • Binoculars, Books or an eBook, Altimeter, Compass and GPS.
  • Playing cards, backgammon and chess set etc.
  • Tablets or smart phones, there are mobile networks in most trekking areas of Nepal.
  • Pocket trekking map,
  • Small light note books, pen/pencil for journal writing.

For water

  • Two water bottles one liter each is fine or preferably camel bag water bottle. Water treatment tablets: Iodine, Dioxide tablets, Taste neutralizer tablets remove iodine taste if necessary. Vacuum flask and a cup preferably is doing teahouse.

Pee Bottle (Optional) but very useful.
Pee funnel for women (optional) Lightweight urinary director.
Hand/foot warmers (Optional) Recommended if you easily get cold hands and feet 1-3 pairs.

Personal first aid kit (small and simple) Aspirin, Moleskin, Adhesive tape, Band-Aids. Scissor, Blade,

Drugs/medications/prescriptions Climbers should bring Mupirocin (Bactroban) cream, excellent topical antibiotic for scrapes and cuts. Cirprofloxin (Cipro) 500mg tablets for travelers' diarrhea and for urinary tract infections. Loperamide (Lomotil) or Immodium for diarrhea. Acetazolamide (Diamox) 125 or 250mg tablets for alltitude sickness. Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) 200mg tablets for altitude headaches, sprains, aches, etc. Excedrin for headaches. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) 325mg tablets for stomach sensitivity.
