Teri La Pass Trekking - An Adventure Holiday in to the total Widernessness!!

Nar Phu Valley and Upper Mustang Trek via Teri La Pass is an extreme adventure trekking that fulfills the desire of those who seek for wilderness experience in trans Himalaya of Nepal. Wilderness Excursion is operating Mustang adventure trip from its year of inception. Wilderness Excursion promotes more daring and exhilarating trek. We first trek into the remote, fortified Tibetan villages of Nar Phu Valley north-east of the Annapurna circuit and then set off to last forbidden kingdom of Upper Mustang. This exploratory section will be wild and wonderful, walking along ancient salt trade route over a high pass to Upper Mustang where we camp with the nomads in spots that see no other westerners. We trek along the eastern, winter route from Lo and explore the newly-discovered, Buddhist caves in the sky, also visiting the remote villages of Dhi, Ghara, Yara and Tange and the renowned Luri and Tashi Kabum cave Gompas.

Nar Phu and Upper Mustang both area was recently opened to foreigners, and have been restricted area to preserve the unique Himalayan Culture and Tradition. So we will see fewer trekkers than many of Nepal's trekking regions. The inhabitants are ethnically Tibetan, traders of old, and have lived an isolated existence for centuries. Phu is an intriguing fortified village perched on a hill at the intersection of many glacial valleys and surrounded by high Himalayan peaks, and Nar is an attractive busy village of slightly more modern 'Bhotias', or Nepali Tibetans. Both are impressively beautiful. Upper Mustang was first travelled by a handful of intrepid Himalayan travelers and pilgrims in in the 50s and 60s, and we continue in their spirit of exploration. Our journey goes along some of the least known routes to the more isolated villages in this sun-drenched region, often following the rocky Kali Gandaki river-bed, other times trekking on spectacular trails high above it, and descending through marvelously sculpted and multi-hued gorges.

You will need two restricted permits - Upper Mustang restricted area permits that cost USD 500 that is allowed to enter for 10 days in Upper Mustang and USD 90 for Nar and Phu Valley during September to November and USD 75 from December to August. In addition, you will need ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Project Permit that cost NPR 2000 per person.

Upper Mustang & Nar Phu Valley via Teri La Pass (5550m)

    Rating:

We as a couple did this wonderful camping trek in April/May 2016. Everything was perfectly prepared. Pradip and his crew (guide, cook, porters) were awesome. They did everything to make it comfortable. They always had a plan b if there was an issue. We can strongly recommend him to organize all kind of treks and we will hire him again next time we come to Nepal. This trek started in Jomsom. After driving from Kathmandu to Pokhora we had a short flight to Jomsom. After 5 walking days we arrived at Lo Manthang. From there we continued to Yara and further to the Teri La Pass. After the pass we were hiking down the Nar Phu Valley to Nar. This region before and after the pass is very remote and we did not see anybody for a week. From Nar we went to Koto, Meta and finally we arrived at Dharpani. From there we had a Jeep to Besi Sahar. The trek including rest days in Kathmandu was almost four weeks. We can recommend this trek to people who like to be in a remote area without lots of tourists. But you have to be prepared for some long days with max. ascent up to 1600m. It was a great experience and a pleasure to be with this professional and friendly crew!

Usefull Info

And second best time is spring (April – June) The weather is sunny and warm during the day time with breath taking sceneries. Experience & Fitness Requirements
Regarding the difficulty; this is a medium hard trek best for passionate walkers who have the stamina and ability to walk at least 5-7 hours a day with a light day pack. Walking in higher elevation is more physically challenging than walking in lower altitudes; however, if we are in excellent health with average physical fitness and have a positive attitude, self-confidence and strong determination, we can achieve this trek successfully. Exercising and jogging regularly for some weeks prior to the trip is a good idea to enhance our strength and stability. Previous hiking and trekking experience would be an asset but no technical skill is required for this trip. It is an essential for participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases to consult their doctor before taking the trip. It is also advised that you inform Wilderness Excursion of any conditions before booking the trek with us.

Accommodation
We will be accommodated in 3-star hotels in Kathmandu and a best tourist standard hotel in Pokhara; and teahouses during the trek. We will stay at Samsara Resort in Kathmandu and Splendid View in Pokhara. All accommodations are on twin and double occupancy basis. Single supplement will be served on request and will cost an additional USD 275. Wilderness Excursion will arrange rooms with attached washrooms; however, rooms in the tea house lodges are clean, tidy, toilet outside. Please be prepared for all manner of bathrooms, Other times you'll have to venture out in the cold to use a smelly squat toilet. Even so, all lodges have running water. However, it may not always be HOT water. Typically, a solar shower will give you a luke warm 'power shower' if it's been a sunny day, otherwise the thing to ask is if the water pipes run through the fire in the dining room or kitchen, as once the fire is going you'll be steaming with the best of them!

All meals including breakfast, lunch and dinner, will be provided during trekking while only breakfast will be available in Kathmandu and Pokhara. Acclimatization
Acclimatization is vital while trekking to Teri La crossing 5595 meter high Teri La Pass. All of Wilderness Excursion trekking itineraries are designed with high degree of awareness of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). Going up at higher altitude too fast contribute a medical condition serious enough to kill. We understand that for a safe trek, it is essential to allow sufficient time for acclimatization. Sensible planning is thus necessary to minimize the risk of AMS. Our itinerary is designed to prevent AMS as much as possible.
