Indigenous People Trail

- Birgit Hugi, Switzerland

An unknown trek I can highly recommend for people who are interested in cultural diversity and prefer to walk off the beaten track. Starting point: Mudhe or Dhunge - Endpoint: Nepalthok. Duration: 7days After a 6hrs drive from Kathmandu to Dunghe we started the next day to walk up to Sailung(3100m), a wonderful place with a stunning view to the Himalayan range. On this trek we walked through picturesque landscapes passing small villages of different ethnic groupes like Tamang, Gurung and Newar. The villagers are extremly friendly and sometimes they invited us for a tea or selfmade yoghurt, a nice change during walking. It's easy to get in contact with the local people, they are very curious and talkative ( we were the only trekkers since a long time).

Between Kholakharka and Surkey we stopped at the Rajhbir Monastry for a tea. They nearly finished the new new guestrooms. In my opinion a perfect place to stay for a night. All the homestays on the trek were basic but with really nice rooms and friendly caring hosts. Over all the trek is not too challenging, doable for people with an average fitness. Pradip from Wilderness Excursion organised this trek for me. Thank you very much Pradip, it was perfect. With Rahul I had a most responsible and caring guide, we were a good team together.
