Our guide from Wilderness Excursion will meet you at TIA (Tribhuvan International Airport) in Kathmandu and transfer you to your selected hotel. A short trip briefing is held in the evening to introduce your Everest Base Camp Trek guide. Overnight at a 3-star hotel. 

 A 132 km drive to Manthali (474 m) from Kathmandu by private vehicle, which will take 4 hours, and a 20-minute flight to the mountain town of Lukla (2,840 m), and then trek to Phakding (2,610 m), a beautiful hamlet nestled at the bank of the Bhotekoshi River: Hiking for 3 to 4 hours. Overnight at a trekking lodge.

Begin the day hiking, passing through scenic Sherpa villages like Bengkar, Monjo, and Jorsale. Though the trail includes several uphill and downhill sections that can be tiring, the fresh air, stunning mountain views, and the goal of reaching Everest Base Camp Trek and returning by Helicopter keep trekkers motivated.

Today marks the most significant day of the journey—the long-awaited dream destination of the Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return has arrived. Early in the morning, you will wake up and head toward Gorakshep. Following a steady, gradual hike alongside the Khumbu Glacier, you’ll carefully make your way over scattered boulders and stones, which require extra caution. As you approach Gorakshep, the surrounding snow-capped mountains will greet you.

After following the Khumbu Glacier, you’ll hike up to Everest Base Camp after lunch. The trail is steep and covered with loose gravel and pebbles. Situated directly below the Khumbu Icefall at the foot of Mount Everest, Base Camp offers a striking scene—during the climbing season, the barren ground is dotted with small, brightly colored tents. Standing beneath some of the world’s tallest peaks, the sense of achievement is overwhelming. Today, we rise at dawn to hike to Kala Patthar, the highest point of the Everest Base Camp trek. It offers a breathtaking sunrise view over the giants of the Himalaya—Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, and Mount Everest.

After taking in the scenery, we descend to Gorak Shep for breakfast before boarding a helicopter to Kathmandu. Please note that the helicopter flight is on a shared basis and not a private charter. If you prefer a private ride, contact us for pricing.

At altitudes above 4,500 meters, helicopters can land but cannot take off with more than three passengers. Therefore, if your group has more than three people, the helicopter will shuttle three passengers first to a designated point below 4,500 meters—typically the village of Pheriche. On the second shuttle, the helicopter will pick up the remaining passengers from Gorak Shep, stop at the designated point to collect the first three, and then continue together to Lukla - Kathmandu.

In case of flight cancellation due to bad weather, the only option is to wait for the next day. The expense of the accommodation will be your responsibility. Occasionally, helicopter charter flights are made available even when airlines cancel their flights. You have the option of taking a helicopter at extra cost.

In case of an emergency during this EBC trek with a helicopter return, no issues to communicate. The Everest region has a mobile network. You may simply use your mobile phone for communication if you get a local SIM card (NTC). The network may frequently become inconsistent because it is a hilly terrain. Your trekking guide will take the unwell individual’s condition into account if someone falls ill along the trail. Yes, you can have vegetarian meals in the lodges along the route to Everest Base Camp with no issues as most lodges provide vegetarian dishes. To prevent food poisoning, we constantly suggest our clients to consume vegetarian meals. Eating large, meat-based meals at a high altitude is not very healthy.

Every teahouse you visit has western-style restrooms. At lower elevations, lodges and teahouses often offer rooms with attached bathrooms and hot showers. At higher elevations, amenities become more basic, and bathrooms are shared. Keep in mind that in extremely cold conditions, the water in toilet bowls may freeze, requiring the use of an outside squat toilet. It’s a good idea to always carry your own toilet paper and hand sanitizer.

You can either buy bottled mineral water or fill a reusable bottle with boiled or sanitized water. Along the trail, bottled and filtered water is available for purchase at teahouses and lodges and is safe to drink. Prices for all goods, including water, increase with altitude. We recommend that visitors treat water with iodine or other purification methods before drinking. To stay hydrated at higher elevations, aim to drink at least 3 to 4 liters of water per day.
